Khorne's Skull Heist

Crunching some numbers for Warcry, I'd need to add three more Khorne Flesh hounds to the already painted Bloodletters I had painted up. Might as well batch paint a unit of 5 instead, could be used for Slaves to Darkness as an ally or for their own armies. And well... If you are painting 5 dogs, why not throw an HQ in there as well?

Rachel went through all of her Sylvaneth over the weekend, figuring out what she wanted to sell or keep. She even made a nice list for herself with some assistance from me.

Colour coded so she knows which version of Warhammer each unit can be played in.
Skirmish could have Alarielle in it, but at that point you'd might as well play a large game of Age of Sigmar. She also has a list of trees that she'd like to sell if anyone is interested in those. (also in a nice list)

On Monday morning we broke out the figures and dice to play another game of Warcry. This time using my Khorne Daemons (as I just finished painting them up) and we didn't get the silly twist that really messed up Rachel's shoot like the last one. The objective this time was to kill one enemy that held a treasure. Rachel won the roll off and nominated me as the defender. What Khorne daemons would want with treasure is beyond me, maybe it was a sapling of a tree that they stole or a perfect skull for the skull throne.

I neglected to take an establishing shot of both sides, but they were 16 inches away from each other.


First dog charged the Kurnoth Hunter with the bow to prevent two shots from it, having to disengage if it wanted to target anything with it's bow. The leader Flesh Hound ran into combat without thinking of if it could attack. Rachel used the Envoy of the Everqueen, making her Sylvaneth have extra weapon strength and toughness. There was a twist for the first round which added 2 to ability rolls so her Quad 4's turned into quad 6s! giving her 3 extra to both


Turn 2 back up showed up from behind the Sylvaneth, but it was too late for the leader.

Finished off by the Dryad once the Sword Kurnoth took off some wounds.


Used Inspiring Presence to get both Bloodletters into combat, they only did a few wounds to the Kurnoth Hunter.
Dryad went on Onslaught, gaining 1 additional attack for each attack action. FOUR critical hits out of 5!
Turn 2 was also when the courier Flesh Hound appeared on the battlefield, it was pretty far from the action that was happening on the other side of the map, but the hound did take a few arrows from a Kurnoth Hunter, as well as frequent Revenant attacks.
Tree-Revenant pops out of the spirit path to throw some damage onto the treasure barer.
Flesh hound wasn't going to give up the treasure of skulls for the skull throne that easily.

But another Tree-revenant jumps the wounded dog, dropping the dog's prized bones to the ground.


From how the Victory card is worded, it sounds like as soon as the treasure barer is killed, the attackers win.We finished up the third round anyways, a few Bloodletters were taken out and some wounds on the Kurnoth hunters but not enough to finish them off.

Rachel and I are tied for Warcry victories, each time Rachel takes out her Dryads she mentions that she wants to continue painting them. In Jon's brain that means, more Warcry = % chance of painted Sylvaneth increases. (Update: Rachel spent the night painting up some of Dryads in different seasons, need to get some basing on them but will post pictures once she deems the done.)

I just picked up the Azyrite Townscape from Comic Readers in the second week of April, it might jump up in the priority list if we continue to play Warcry.

I have been on a bit of a kick going through the metal models I got back in January. Some of them I'll be using them as proxies for other models, adding them into the Slaves to Darkness army as I see fit. Hopefully, I can convince Rachel to do more Warcry, I quickly flipped through the rule book for campaigns, but it only has objectives for Chaos warbands and the original cards that were released when Wacry came out. Looks like I might need to pick up the Tome of Champions in the future.... or just tweak the stories in the rule book. Either way! More Warcry?!

Manoroshi no akuma




Manoroshi no akuma, the phantom demons, when someone wants to join these bandits, they must choose a new name. This marks their birth as a bandit, a new life without the baggage of their old one. Their loyalty is to the gang.

Some members will be hired on as extra hands to defend important individuals or transport cargo, but this is a front to gain trust within higher circles of society. Planning one large pay off robbery before leaving without a trace.

I ordered some basing grass, but not sure if I'll actually use it, as it's darker then the older GW basing I used on the bamboo terrain.



Game Aids for Ronin 93 points
Daichi - (meaning great Intelligence) Katana, no armour, one extra skill (21 pts)

Kiyoshi- (meaning Soundless) Yumi, no armour, one extra skill (24 pts)

Tatsuo- (meaning masculine dragon) Katana, no armour, 3 extra skills (25 pts)

Sota- (meaning sudden, grand sound of the wind) Teppo, light armour (23 pts)


Seems a bit weird to have no armour on most of these bandits, but with how they are dressed they really don't have much on them. Sato has a Mino raincoat, which I considered light armour, but probably wouldn't protect against much now that I looked it up.

The three extra bandits could be added if I wiggle some titles around, being bandits they can only have a rank 2 member if they have more rank 0 or 1 and only one rank 3, but for first games, I think 4 will be good to learn.

After playing Warcry with Rachel last time, I started painting up some Khorne dogs. A couple turned into a unit of 5 if I wanted to play them in one of the bigger games.I decided I might as well start on some HQs as well..... so Khorne Daemons will be coming off the paint desk soon.

Where did March go?

With the physical distancing I might've got into the notion that it would persist for the major of the year. Predictions are that it will continue till at least May so I think in my mind I wouldn't be able to show off or play with anything that I get painted for quiet some time. I feel this reasoning is when I kind of didn't have much of a focus for painting in March.

But in reality this is a great time to paint up new miniatures and learn new rules, so when we do get to play face to face, we will all have amazing looking armies that are itching for a fight.

Last Sunday, Rachel and I played a game of Warcry with her tree ppl and me playing with my painted Savage Orks. 

I was going to play with khorne daemons, but the blood brushes aren't based and the hounds aren't any better. I did paint up some cerca 97' bloodletters so getting a few hounds and one or two more letters to make an all metal warband might be in the cards for a future project.

I used 40k terrain for this game, as I don't reall own many basic walls that benefits Warcry's card system of deciding terrain. Guess the orks created a rift in time to fight, most likely from screaming WAAAAAAGH too loud.

One of the twists that we rolled for was Dead of Night, which limited ranged attacks to 3", which definitely hurt Rachel more then the Orks.

The dryad kept caressing the Ork boy for 1 damage each turn.

Warcry is played out with essential Yahtzee rolls, so doubles, triples and quads give you different abilities. You are also allowed a wild dice to add to your dice pool, either getting more singles to take initiative or adding it to existing doubles, triples, or quads to unleash better powers.

Rachel popped her Quad ability on the last turn which gave the tree plus 3 strength AND toughness. Making all her trees hit easily and harder to wound. It didn't help much though.

The objective was on the top of the platform, most likely some type of future rock to make weapons with.
Khorne daemons were painted up, the leader with a newish paint scheme and the other two more traditional for the 90s. I don't have any goblin green, so I couldn't go full retro. (or didn't want to.)


I painted up an older flesh hound for Necromunda, possibly as a exotic pet, maybe a Phyrr Cat or a less mutated Khimerix?

Guess I should start on my Necromunda gang then if I am starting on Exotic Beasts. For Goliath, I was thinking that my gang would be dependent on a xenos drug that turns their skin weird colours, maybe even bulging out of their veins as green or something like that. This gang would also be clearly marked as reneges of House Goliath. Escher will most likely be rock stars as per the usual.

I had some left over form board that I made into some nice bamboo forest for Ronin, also 3 of the 7 bandit are finished up. I have been looking at the samurai models on Warlord Games, and they have a good bundle with some foot soldiers, mounted samurai some a terrain piece. The 3 bandits are about 52 pts for Ronin, so I should finish off what I have. I feel like I have been looking at too many new models and not focusing on what I got.

I have some basing materials on order from Redline Hobby, but might be awhile till it arrives.

I think I'll finish off the Bandits I have for Ronin then either start on a Necromunda gang or the Flesh hounds for Warcry. I should also be getting a copy of Star Breach in the mail at some point and I have the Starter set of Wild West Exodus that might be fun to paint up for that game. Let's get through this Pile O Shame!

Brave the castle to rescue Lily

Today I was able to convince Rachel to play some Mice & Mystics with me. I decided that I had already played the first scenario a few times, that we could start on the next chapter, Lily's Tail. Part of the agreement requires me to play at least on game of Wingspan, not that I am against this, I am just not as good at engine games as Rachel.

The ranger has got her tail stuck in a mousetrap, though as Rachel pointed out, one of her abilities is that she is immune to mousetraps. But none the less! Our three brave mice must venture back into the castle to save their comrade. Will they be able to make it in time before their friend is eaten by cockroaches!?

We start in the courtyard, which is where the last chapter ended. A crow is terrorizing the courtyard, dealing out unblockable wounds to anyone that rolls a 1 on their movement.

This encounter started out slow, both the heroes and minions not able to connect with any of their hits.... Besides Nez, which kinda happens when you roll 4 dice, even then he was getting more cheese and usually only one damage.

The mice were able to take out the rats, but not before triggering a surge, the game's mechanic to keep pressure on the players so they don't drag their feet.

As always Nez was able to squash the spider with his hammer of justice.

The spider didn't flip on his back well, so he just barfed hearts to show he was dead.
The mighty heroes explore the next tile, revealing COCKROACHES! Not shown is Lily, fending off one cockroach at a time, not that scary, but could have been rats if our encounters were different.

No problem getting through the roaches, but the next room....


To start it was only cockroaches. Rachel was about to heal Colin and Nez at the beginning of the tile. Tilda gets an extra attack dice for being on heroes that are hurt, so she decided not to. But then we got two surges, one was the centipede, the next was two rat warriors. Yikes! As the fearless leader, Colin, I decided to run away from the large bug and let Nez have a good swing at them.


This doesn't look good. Nez is immune to stun attacks from the Centipede.

I figured Nez could get a good hit on the centipede, which he did with three damage, one more it would have been dead, but the Centipede's counter attack was THREE damage. With Nez's previous wound, he perished. Too bad he wasn't healed at the start of the tile, hey Rachel? Oh well, we'll get him back after we clear the tile of enemies.

Lily was one tile away, I had to check to see if she could have helped in the battle in the next room. Not until her tile was explored. Boo, she just had to watch her friends die. That's too bad. 

Rachel seemed to have fun, so I'd call that a win in my books.

I have been a bit scatter brained for painting these days. I started one of old Bloodletters from the daemon lot from January. Figured they could be used in multi game systems, one being Warcry, which I just picked up the cards for. I finished one in a more 90's style paint scheme, might make the leader with a newer colour to it. After digging around, I noticed I only have two 32mm bases, so this will be on hold till either my order comes in or I pick them up locally.

I also dabbled in some bandits for Ronin, but again, I'll need some basing material. Guess I'll brave the outdoors to get supplies.
